The First World Hotel & Plaza
The
initial stage of the construction of the First World Hotel &
Plaza commenced in 1998 incorporating 3,228 rooms and upon
completion of Phase Two, will total 6,300 rooms. While already
the nation's largest hotel, completion of Phase Two will make it
the world's largest single hotel with the most number of rooms.
Phase One cost over RM1 billion and took three years to
complete.
There are many first and great achievements in the hotel
construction. One of the greatest was that the project was
completed 12 months ahead of schedule, surely a credible feat
for a project of such mammoth scale. The physical difficulties
of construction at the hilltop are well documented.
The complex has one of the largest and most modern fire alarm
systems in Malaysia, not to mention the largest commercial
boiler as well as the largest air-cooled chiller system. It also
incorporates Malaysia's largest instantaneous steam heated hot
water system. Phase Two will include the world's largest PABX
system connecting 10,000 rooms via 16,000 terminals.
The long-term monitoring and maintenance of the complex
incorporates the use of inclinometers, piezometers, settlement
markers and anchored load cells to ensure its overall structural
safety and integrity.
First
World Hotel & Plaza is a major initiative for the Genting Group
and a big step forward for the Malaysian tourism industry. Its
completion has made a valuable contribution to raising the
standards of Malaysian design, construction and management.
The First World Hotel & Plaza within the "City of
Entertainment" well on its way to becoming one of the world's
great family entertainment venues and to placing Malaysia on the
world's tourism stage.
