Paper & Packaging
The Paper & Packaging Manufacturing
division of the Genting Group is headed by Genting Sanyen. This division, which
began as a small paper manufacturer in 1988 has since grown, under the Group’s
guidance, to become the largest integrated recycled paper and corrugated
carton/packaging manufacturer in Malaysia. It has received numerous awards of
quality excellence such as ISO9002 quality certification by SIRIM.
Genting Sanyen is now the largest paper
mill complex in Malaysia that uses the latest recycling technology to produce
industrial brown grade paper. Strategically located in central Malaysia and only
a 5-minute drive from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the paper mill has
consistently achieved a high production efficiency of above 95% and an annual
production capacity of about 265,000 tonnes. It has a 35% domestic market share
of industrial brown grade paper in Malaysia. The division sources 95% of the
waste paper raw material from its own 31 paper collection centres throughout the
country, to be recycled into industrial brown paper. In 1998, the division
expanded into the downstream activities of the packaging/corrugating business.
The Packaging Division has two
state-of-the-art corrugated box plants that are located at the Kuala Langat
Paper Mill Complex (central) and Prai, Penang (northern) respectively. The
central box plant was commissioned in the last quarter of 2000 and the northern
box plant was commissioned in the first quarter of 2002. The two corrugating box
plants have a total production capacity of about 140,000 metric tons and are
equipped with high-speed corrugators and high graphic colour-printers. This has
enabled Genting Sanyen to be an integrated value-added solutions provider of
paper-packaging and corrugated products.
Genting Group is mindful of its
environmental social responsibilities and takes great efforts to encourage new
innovative ideas that will enhance its existing business divisions through
environmental-focused efforts.
Through Genting Sanyen, the Group are undertaking R&D
efforts to convert non-economical waste products into environment-friendly
products through new processes that will add value to the Group’s existing
products. Two key examples are the development of bio oil by converting empty
fruit bunches of oil palm trees and the development of synthetic wood plastic
composites from compressed combination of wood waste and plastic waste.
