1965

  • Genting Group was founded by Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong in 1965 to realise his vision of building a mountaintop resort in Malaysia for everyone to enjoy
  • Construction of access road from Genting Sempah to the peak of Ulu Kali mountain

1969

  • Opening of access road (25.5km) from Genting Sempah to the peak of Ulu Kali mountain

1971

  • Opening of Genting Group’s first hotel, Genting Highlands Hotel (200 rooms), now known as Genting SkyWorlds Hotel

1975

  • Awana Skyway – first cable car launched in Genting Highlands Resort (now known as Resorts World Genting)

1976 - 1985


1979

  • Kayangan Apartments (83 units fully sold), first property development project in Resorts World Genting

1980

  • Expansion into plantation activities via Asiatic Development Berhad (now known as Genting Plantations Berhad)

1981

  • Opening of 18-storey Genting Hotel (now known as Genting Grand), the flagship hotel of Resorts World Genting

1984

Property development projects launched in Resorts World Genting:

  • Ria Apartments (428 units)
  • Awana Condominium (320 units)

1985

  • Launch of Awana Genting Highlands Golf & Country Resort (now known as Resorts World Awana)

1986 - 1995


1988-1991

  • Genting Plantations - first wave of expansion into Sabah (21,863 ha)

1989

  • Restructuring of the resort division under Resorts World Bhd (now known as Genting Malaysia Berhad).

1992

  • Opening of Resort Hotel (837 rooms) and Indoor Theme Park

1993

  • Genting Cheng Perdana - property development in Melaka (135 acres), launched by Genting Plantations.
    Genting Plantations diversified into property development with its maiden project, Genting Cheng Perdana in Melaka.

  • Opening of Chin Swee Caves Temple in Resorts World Genting

  • Opening of Genting Outdoor Theme Park in Resorts World Genting

  • Opening of Awana Kijal Golf, Beach and Spa Resort, Terengganu (now known as Resorts World Kijal)

  • Genting Oil & Gas formed joint venture to explore for gas in Indonesia

1997

  • Genting Skyway cable car system, a 3.38-km leisure ride to the resort hilltop officially opened
  • Opening of Highlands Hotel (850 rooms)

  • Opening of Awana Porto Malai, Langkawi (now known as Resorts World Langkawi)

2001

  • Completion of First World Hotel (Tower 1), First World Plaza & First World Indoor Theme Park and Genting International Convention Centre

  • First World Complex – official launch

  • Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong handed over the chairmanship of the Genting Group to Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay

  • First World Hotel - “World’s Largest Hotel” with 6,118 rooms, declared by Guinness World Records

  • Genting International PLC - awarded Sentosa Integrated Resort project by the Government of Singapore

  • Acquired casino properties in the UK via Stanley Leisure Plc (since renamed Genting UK Plc)

  • Genting Pura Kencana – property development in Johor (9,000 acres), launched by Genting Plantations

  • Genting Plantations ventured into Central Kalimantan and expanded landbank in West Kalimantan, Indonesia

  • Asiatic Centre of Genome Technology Sdn Bhd completed the first draft assembly of the oil palm genome

2009

  • Genting Highlands Resort rebranded to Resorts World Genting

2010

  • Opening of Resorts World Sentosa, the first integrated resort in Singapore

  • Opening of Universal Studios Singapore® at Resorts World Sentosa

  • Opening of Resorts World New York Casino City, (now known as Resorts World New York City) - a premier entertainment hub and the leading gaming operator in New York State

  • Jangi Wind Farm in Gujarat, India - Genting Group’s first renewable energy project that produces clean energy commenced operations
